Luke Wakefield MS CSPS CSCS LMT
Luke Wakefield is a highly accomplished Special Populations Physiologist and Therapeutic Massage Therapist with over 15years of experience in optimizing health and recovery for diverse client needs. With a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance and a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology, Luke specializes in working with clients facing complex medical conditions, including cardiac, respiratory, neurological, oncology and orthopedic issues. He has additionally received over 1000hours of massage therapy education as a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), is a Certified Special Populations Specialist (CSPS) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), blending clinical expertise with hands-on therapy. His approach is holistic, combining movement and manual therapies to help individuals achieve recovery, mobility, and long-term wellness.
Wakefield's practice is unique in its integration of eastern therapeutic techniques, informed by his advanced training in massage and bodywork. Specializing in traditional Thai therapeutic healing and abdominal massage, he blends these ancient practices with modern clinical interventions to provide a well-rounded approach to care. His extensive knowledge in both eastern and western healing modalities allows him to treat not just the physical body but also the energetic system, offering clients a deeply personalized and restorative experience. Whether helping clients recover from surgery or managing chronic conditions, Luke ensures that each individual’s plan is tailored to their specific needs.
Luke’s career began as an elite swimmer, relocating from the U.K. to the U.S. to attend the University of Louisville, KY to study and further his career as an athlete. In 2008, he competed in the finals at the Olympic Trials, narrowly missing the Beijing games, and in 2010 captained the UofL conference championship team to victory, experiences that laid the foundation for his later work with professional athletes. During his graduate school tenure, Wakefield was a graduate assistant in the physiology lab, conducting research and teaching undergraduate level courses, shaping his use of the most up to date studies and techniques.
He served as the Director of Athletic Development at Champion Sports Medicine in Birmingham, AL, assisting in the rehabilitation process of patients of world renowned orthopedic surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, and revolutionary Physical Therapists Kevin Wilk and Lenny Macrena, designing and implementing return-to-play programs for pro athletes recovering from orthopedic surgeries and injuries. His ability to guide athletes back to peak performance through targeted programs solidified his reputation in high-performance environments. This experience prepared Luke for his next role contracting for U.S. government agencies, where he trained high-ranking officers in the military, navy, fire, police, and FBI on evidence-based exercise modalities to enhance physical readiness and prevent injury.
Following his work with professional athletes and U.S. government agencies, Wakefield transitioned more into the role of a Special Populations Physiologist in Denver. During this period, he worked at top-tier performance centers like Pura Vida, Landow Performance, and The Studio, where he applied his expertise to help individuals with more complex medical needs. While he gained valuable experience, Luke realized the importance of offering a more personalized and integrative approach that combined his diverse skills in both eastern and western practices. This realization ultimately drove him to open his own private facility, where he could provide a comprehensive, customized service that catered to the specific needs of special populations, while seamlessly blending therapeutic bodywork and advanced exercise physiology.
In 2021, Luke opened Flow State Fitness, a private facility in Denver’s Cherry Creek area, where he continues to work with special populations, specializing in assistive treatment for oncology, traumatic brain injury, and end of life services.
